Connection Software for Windows 3.1
Internet Explorer 3.02a

This page is to help OVIS users install the connection software for Microsoft Internet Explorer. The four disk set includes Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02a, Internet Mail, Internet News, Virtual Machine for Java, and a TCP/IP Stack and Dialing program custom configured for OVIS.

 Software Installation and Configuration

  1. Insert disk 1 into your floppy drive and choose Run from the Program Manager's File menu, then type a:setup (or b:setup).
  2. After reading the Internet Explorer License Agreement, click I Accept.
  3. Follow the dialog boxes, choose Complete setup, when prompted, and choose the default settings until you are prompted to restart your computer.
  4. After restarting your computer and returning to Windows, double click the Get on the Internet icon in the Microsoft Internet Explorer program group.
  5. Click the Install button when OVIS's custom installer opens.
  6. Select the Microsoft Internet Explorer program group when prompted for a group to install the icon used to connect to the Internet.

First Time Connection

  1. Double Click the Internet Explorer icon in the Microsoft Internet Explorer program group.
  2. Type in your username and password. You can also select the Dial Settings if you need to disable call waiting or modify your call behavior.
  3. Click Properties
  4. Select the Modem tab at the top of the window. Change Maximum Speed to 57600 for 14.4 modems or 115200 for 28.8 or faster modems then click OK.
  5. Click connect and your modem should dial OVIS. You will see Verifying Username and Password. Upon successfully connecting the dialing window will disappear and you will see a Connected to OVIS icon minimized in the lower left of your screen. Internet Explorer should automatically load OVIS's homepage. You are on the Internet!

In the future, you can double click the OVIS icon to connect to the Internet. Double-clicking the Internet Explorer icon should automatically bring up the Connect To window as well, but it is not guaranteed to work like this all the time.

Disconnecting

  1. Close an Internet related applications.
  2. Double Click the minimized Connected to OVIS icon in the lower left of your screen.
  3. Click Disconnect.

Setting Up Mail

  1. Make sure you are connected to OVIS and Internet Explorer is running.
  2. Select Go then Read Mail from Internet Explorer's menu bar.
  3. Enter your username and password. It will also ask you to verify your password by entering it a second time.
  4. On the Internet Mail Configuration window, enter your real name or the name you want to be displayed when you send mail. Also enter your E-mail Address. You will notice the default already typed in the box says @ovis.net. Your e-mail address is your username@ovis.net.
  5. The default information, ns1.ovis.net, entered for both the Incoming (POP3) and Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server should already be correct and entered for you. Just hit Next to continue.
  6. Enter your username for E-mail Account and type in your password in the Password field to complete the setup of your mail.
