Since putting up my dream page, I have been in this business for 10 months,
not an easy 10 months either! As you remember, I started out green in the
business world. I had to do everything twice when I first got started, because
I did it wrong the first time. I mean getting set up with the Federal and State
Government. Believe me, I could tell you how to do it now! By the time I was
able to open my doors, I was thinking "Why did I EVER want to get into bus-
ness?"I've made a couple of contracts, trying to be fair with
people, and found that
I had not looked at all aspects of the "deal." Oh well, live and learn,
right?
Well, I learned that in business you try to think "down the road." I am on first
name basis with people at the local phone company and with our Backbone
connection at MCI. I have a business card and my own lawyer! We've been
in business for 10 months and have the BEST USERS on the whole internet!
I mean that too! 99.9% of our users have been patient,
helpful,understanding,
but most of all LOYAL. I can never thank them enough for that! The other
.1% knows who they are...and if they are honest with themselves, they will
admit (if only to themselves) that they LACKED one of the above qualities!
But everything considered, it HAS been worth it! Not because I'm making
any
money...personally, believe me, but for the opportunity to meet and get to know
all of our users in some way. Well, that's another page, not in dreams but in a
reality page of some sort.
What I have been TRYING to allude to since the beginning of this page is that
the people who have grown WITH OVIS and nurtured her all along, our users,
bankers, lawyers, personal friends who told us "you can do it," makes me feel
I'm a part of something bigger than just OVIS...a business, cyber family, if you
will.
Other people wanting to START a business, or some already up and running,
are probably having some of the same problems, not only start up problems,
but clientele as well. Let's face it, big business can afford to charge a little
less,
but there are a LOT of people who will pay a few cents more for more personal
attention and quality.
The REAL problem, as I see it, is that new businesses need a guaranteed
clientele, meaning they need a lot of people to commit to using them, if they
are able to produce results as needed. I don't mean you can't ever go to the
big guys, but seek your needs FIRST with the SMALL businesses. It is called
being a part of something bigger than yourself. It is called Cooperation. It
works! Whether you are or you are not a business owner, you probably will
agree when I say that AMERICA NEEDS IT'S SMALL BUSINESSES!
