A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an individual specially trained in the adminsitration of anesthesia to patients having surgery or procedures requiring sleep or sedation. It is an extremely interesting and challenging profession for many reasons.

Here are a few links which I have visited and would recomment to anyone interested in the practice of Anesthesia. They are not necessarily for the lay person and might be found quite dull to some. However, the "gas-passers" out there might just find a helping hand or a new friend or two.

The Daffynition of Anesthesia as quoted by Brian G. McAlary, M.D. is...

"Anesthesia is the practice of pumping potent pharmaceuticals and poisons into poorly prepared patients having pathetic protoplasm while perusing surgical practicioners in pursuit of poorly defined pathology during preposterous periods of time."

Another daffynition that I give credit to Dr. Dennis Allen for is...

"The act of half-awake people taking care of half-asleep people being operated on by half-witted people!"

AnesthesiaWeb http://www.anesthesiaweb.com is an independent educational resource by and for anesthesia providers. It is supported by Roche Laboratories and Duke University. Nice site, but there is not even one CRNA on the Advisory Board. I keep meaning to email Roche about this!
